INFORMATION FOR RESEARCHERS

SERS was established as a reserve for conducting research and this continues to be its primary purpose. As such, SERS is an ideal place to conduct research on tropical biology and ecology.

There are a number of advantages from doing work at SERS. Foremost, the station has nearly pristine primary dry-evergreen and dry-dipterocarp forest, as well as a wide range of species. There are two laboratory facilities available: a main indoor space which has power-points, a refrigerator, drying oven and dissecting microscope, and an outdoor converted greenhouse with running water and electricity. SERS holds a library in English and a small collection. In addition, weather data has been collected at SERS since the station was established in 1967. It has been collected daily for the past five years and before that, monthly. Therefore, the station holds a near continuous record of daily rainfall, humidity, and maximum and minimum temperature for the past thirty years. The staff at SERS are very knowledgeable, experienced and helpful, and therefore able to assist with the project and any logistics.

Also, permission to conduct research at SERS is only required from the National Research Council of Thailand, which only takes 1-2 months to obtain.

Living conditions at SERS are more than adequate. Accommodation can be arranged to suit any size research group and for any duration. A range of meals can be provided, as well as the option of self-catering using the existing kitchen facilities with groceries available in the town of Pak Thong Chai , 26km away.
